As long as the barrel has the markings C MP CHROME BORE it was made to GI specifications and will safely handle the 5.56mm round. HOWEVER!!!! Some early AR-15s were chambered for the .222 Rem. and the .223 Rem. These barrels are so marked and as such, the correct ammunition must be used.

New old stock, this barrel was made from 1974-1981, marked with “C MP Chrome Bore” 20 inch with front sight. Barrel is in excellent shape unused. $500 ftf on the North Shore. 603 "C MP CHROME BORE" (Colt, Magnetic Particle) marked barrel. These were mated to a full fence lower receiver with captive hinge pin. Possible years of production on this assembly are between 1972 and 1974. These receiver assemblies have the Colt proof marks on the front right side of the receiver.

Colt 1/12 twist 20 inch barrel with A1 Birdcage flash hider and either a Colt or BFI front sight base. Barrel marked “C MP CHROME BORE”.

Early 601's used a 1/14 barrel, later a 1/12, the barrel on this rifle is a 1/12, 65-66 era marked w/MP (magnetic particle tested) under base, these barrels had no chrome bore or chamber lining.

This 16” HBAR has a stripped weight of 2 pounds 3.4 ounces. Naturally the bore and NATO chamber are chrome-lined. The barrel employs a carbine-length gas system and has a 1:9” twist.
